According to the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress, if left untreated, children impacted by grief and trauma are significantly more likely to die from suicide than their peers. In Hawaii, one in 15 keiki will lose a parent or a sibling by the age of 18. That’s 80,000 keiki living with grief. Thousands more are separated from one or both parents and traumatized from domestic violence, abuse or neglect. These children need a community of support and safe place to heal to put them back on a healthy course and prevent these outcomes. For over 20 years, Kids Hurt Too Hawaii has been there for the children of Hawaii, offering them critical services like therapeutic peer support groups and community engagement and having long-lasting positive impact on their lives. Our peer support groups give children a desperately needed safe space to work through their trauma and the healing process.
